How to Apply for a New Zealand Visa

To apply for a tourist visa, you first need to obtain an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA). You can get an ETA from the website of the New Zealand Immigration Service (NZIS), which is called e-visa.govt.nz. When you have your ETA, visit the website of the New Zealand Embassy or Consulate in your home country and download the application form for a tourist visa. The application form has detailed instructions on how to fill it out. Once you have filled out the application form, attach all required documents, including your passport photo page, your ETA, and proof that you have enough money to cover your stay in New Zealand. If you are applying for a visitor visa instead of a resident visa, make sure that you also attach a letter from your employer or educational institution verifying that you will be working or studying in New Zealand during your stay. The application process, which can take up to two months, generally costs $140 NZD for an adult and $60 NZD for children (16 and younger).
